What to watch

The future of prime time television is about to become irritatingly dismal.  "Why?" you may ask.  Well, it’s not that producers have begun to rely increasingly on reality television to entice the viewing public (which they have).  It’s not that the writers for great shows have suddenly become hackneyed and predictable (although Alias has been a big disappointment this season).  What is it then?

It happens every year at about this time — it’s the summer hiatus.  The last week or so has been filled with season finales and all we have to look forward to are re-runs.  However, there has been an interesting trend for the last two years at least in which pilot shows begin off season.  The only show I know of for sure that will be returning for a summer season is Battlestar Galactica, which took a spring hiatus and will return in July!

So, now that all my shows are ending for the summer, I need to replace them.  Perhaps, there was a really interesting series that I missed and can catch up on the re-runs.  I just don’t know where to start.  What are your favorite shows? Maybe you know of some off-beat cable/satellite TV program that hasn’t made a mainstream showing. Or, maybe you have noticed promotions for a new series.  Hopefully, I can find something to fill the gap.  I need all the help I can get.

My favorite shows consist of Alias (which I haven’t watch at all..Tivoed the whole season.) Battlestar Galatica, Stargate and Stargate Atlantis(which also starts a new season in July), West Wing ( I want Alan Alda to win), Grey’s Anotomy(Great new show that came mid season about surgical interns), Lost (which we only watched one episode and loved it but it came on a bad time.. so we will be getting the DVD.) and I guess that’s it. My TV watching has changed over the years. I’m sick of reality TV but Amy is not..yet. There are no good sitcoms any more that I like. The last one I loved was Seinfield. Raymond was also funny but didn’t really watch it and now we catch it on reruns as a show to watch before we go to sleep. So this summer I will be busy with school, work and will have SCIFI to watch. All is good with the world.

I don’t know if you ever caught Family Guy, but it is in syndication on the cartoon network. I pvr it and watch it every day at lunch. Matt Groening made it.

In fact, the more I watch the cartoon network’s [Adult Swim], the more I love it. I’m usually not an animation fan, but they have some great stuff. I think the reason it is so good is that guys our age are starting to get a foothold on the production arenas, so they produce stuff that just resonates.

Have you heard any plans about what we’re supposed to be doing for the P.R. reunion?

    Shows I watch regularly:
Alias, Lost, Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives (latecomer to this one), Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, West Wing, Smallville, Jack and Bobby, 24.

I think I will record some [Adult Swim] programs. I have never watched family guy but I have heard a lot about it. I like Futurama and have a list of recorded Simpsons episodes as long as my arm. Megan doesn’t really like watching the animated shows, so I usually don’t watch them when she’s around.

  4. I just remembered that there is a miniseries coming on starting June 10th on TNT Into the West is the name of it. It is a Steven Speilberg thing. Anyway, it looks pretty good. It has three showtimes every weekend. I know Mike and I will be tuning in.
