Sci-fi + Western = Masterpiece

In searching for more worthwhile TV to watch, I came across Firefly, currently being aired on the SciFi channel.  I remember when this show was originally aired on Fox a few years back.  It didn’t make it on Fox’s schedule partly due to the backlash of Dark Angel viewers (the show it replaced) and partly due to Fox’s half-hearted effort at promoting and even airing the episodes (Fox pre-empted it for baseball, showed episodes out of order and only aired 9 of the 15 episodes).

I was skeptical, at first, whether or not sci-fi and western could be combined successfully.  Well, it works.  I have only seen 2 episodes so far but according to internet fans, it only gets better.  The SciFi channel is currently re-running the entire season (all 15 episodes) that was produced by Fox.  There are rumors that new episodes might be made but there is little evidence that this will occur.  However, the possibility exists, especially if the show draws a big enough fan base.  Fox does want to make money.  Currently, Firefly is available on DVD and has sold over 200,000 copies.  There is also a movie coming out in September, Serenity, based the series.  A sequel is also being planned.  These are good things if you are a fan of the show.  And I am becoming a bigger fan with each episode.

I swear you and Mike were seperated at birth! Mike told me that originally Fox aired these out of order b/c they thought that the original pilot wasn’t exciting enough. Mike loves Joss Whedon the creator of Firefly, Buffy and Angel. Mike thinks that Joss is very creative and there need to be more people in tv like him. I even got into Angel. He is looking forward to the movie too. Amy
