In case you didn’t notice, yesterday a Caltech chemistry professor was announced as a winner of the Nobel prize in chemistry along with 2 others. He joins a long list of other Caltech professors who have been awarded the Nobel prize–(32 total prizes, including 1 peace prize for Linus Pauling). Another Caltech prof won the prize in chemistry during my first year in grad school. Of course, this one is a little closer to home since Prof. Grubbs is one of my thesis committee memebers. He will be very busy in the coming months just as I am trying to complete my thesis and schedule a defense. Hopefully, our schedules will mesh well and I can defend my thesis in a timely manner. Anyway, congratulations, Bob.
