Review- Movielink

Up to this point, the service had some minor annoyances (couldn’t use Firefox, had to install software, 24 hours from first play time limit).  Now, I was loosing patience.  The download and install of the updates took a full minute – longer than the Manager software install – and required a reboot of my computer before changes would take effect.  Meanwhile, a notification pop-up told me that my movie had completed downloading.  Highly annoyed, I saved all my open work and rebooted…

Following the reboot, a Movielink window popped up asking to complete the Windows Media Player Security Update.  I clicked Next a couple of times and Finish.  Windows Media Player opened automatically along with a Movielink Manager window.  An error message in the notification area indicated an error while trying to download my movie.  (I figured this was because the movie had already completed downloading, since it was available on the list of movies in the Movielink Manager window).

Before playing the video, I look for the file on my hard drive.  It was in the Movielink install folder under data/content/.  The file was set to Hidden, but curiously not Read Only.  I also took the chance to read the email I received from Movielink concerning my registration.  Nothing interesting there.  Then, I decided the moment of truth had arrived.  So I selected the Spiderman 2 feature, but noticed the Play button was still greyed out.  Double-clicking the movie selection popped up a message telling me the movie was not yet ready for play back, despite an indicator on the manager that showed 100% completed 0 sec. remaining.  Maybe that previous error message really meant something.
